Vision 2025 – The Process
Vision 2010, a document created in 2000 and 2001 by citizens, local business leaders, government officials and professional planners, provided critical guidance to Freeport over the last 10 years. The recommendations of Vision 2010 have largely been realized, and, it is now time to look ahead at the next decade and beyond.
Vision 2010 focused on Freeport’s Village districts but the next project will take in a larger view, including all of the business areas in town.
The new project, Vision 2025, will provide a framework for development that will be based on our current assets, our future objectives and what we will need to do and to create to achieve those objectives.
Vision 2025 is needed to focus our attention and energies on collective priorities. It will cover a broad range of interests to include (but not be limited to)
·Expanding on and enhancing the quality, outdoor lifestyle brand already developed by L.L.Bean
and others
·Support and retention of quality businesses
·Consideration of a connection to the water
·Development of a local transportation system with regional connections
·Enhancement of our business-friendly image
·Other priorities as determined from business and community leaders and citizens
Dale Olmstead has agreed to be the project champion and will meet with town leaders, assist with raising monies to fund the project, and direct the project’s progress.
Two meetings were scheduled (September 29 and October 27) to gather ideas about appropriate areas of interest. These ideas will be reviewed and used to construct a Request for Proposal (RFP) which will be sent to a variety of consulting firms. From the proposals received one consultant will be selected to coordinate the project. Freeport citizens and businesses will be involved in developing the recommendations that will be part of the final report. FEDC plans to have the project completed by September 2012.
Vision 2025 will be collaborative and, with the involvement from Freeport’s leaders and citizens, will result in a finished blueprint for future success.
